I’m using IE 7. I can’t get in to read the posts. It keeps locking up my IE, not responding, and I have to keep using the end task to close it down. And when I am able to open a topic there is a “Mile” of space between the replies.

I do NOT want to try installing all kinds of new programs to try and get the forum to work and I do not want to upgrade my IE. The reason I do not want to upgrade my IE is because the IE 7 has the magnifying glass in the lower right corner I use all the time to zoom in on pictures. So I don’t want to upgrade and loose that magnifying glass.

So is there anything else I can do? Or is it just a bug in the new forum ver and we just have to wait for them to fix the bug? Help please….

to be honest I don't think there is a bug with the forum. I havn't had any problems at all.

I think the most likely problem is because it is a new upgrded version and some browsers aren't compatible. Don't hold me to that because I'm no expert, but I had a few issues with IE and I use Firefox and have no problems at all with that.

A lot of things have features that won't work with some and will with others. Some found that Firefox worked for them but they don't like the browser.

My old laptop wouldn't even support the older versions of itunes and it just froze and wouldn't work so I had to give up.

When I downloaded it onto the new laptop it wouldn't work either and had to reinstall the 64 bit version instead.

It could be that's the case here and because it's a brand new spangly version and the only soloution I can think of unfortunatley. Perhaps someone who knows a lot more about these things can give some better advice.

Just for you piece of mind, IE8 does still have the magnifying glass at the bottom right and it does still work, if you have no alternative but to upgrade. I do hope you can get it sorted the way you want it though. I know what you are saying and it is a hassle changing everything when you like it the way it is. :)

:) Hello BlueRose -

I do not mean to infringe.

I am having issues myself, and since you have brought it up, I thought I would post on yours instead of making a new one similair.

I am figuring out the browser thing rn.. I see you have su, red, and dg. Red is my first home, not a dg or su fan, I'd like to know if I can control the stories of mine that are going to the feeds.

In other words - I do not want to see the stories I post here in GhostStudy on Reddit, Stumble Upon or Digg. Reddit and Digg crowd totally different from this one. I do not want to login to my Reddit and see one of the stories I have here posted there
.

I understand anyone can copy and post stories I have posted here to any of these sites, w/o the help of a feeder.

Thank you.:)

Hi Blue rose,

While the new version of the forum was running fine on my tower machine, my newer laptop had all the same issuses that you decsribe. Very annoying stuff! :verymad: I was running vista and IE V.7.

I went to Microsoft's website, downloaded IE V.8 and all the issues went away. IE V.8 retains the magnifying butto, which i also use quite a bit, so no need to worry about that.

Now I am all happy & stuff! :happy0045:

I hope this helps, Canis

OK, This is over my head Jill. :Picture 562:

Can you explain what these sites are in a little more detail? Are you saying they are automatically grabbing our content and posting it elswhere? Is it all content or just yours? Sorry to ask, I just do not grasp what you are saying.

If it is an issue with bots coming in a taking content, I will have to confer on that with the manager. Obviously, no one would be thrilled wth that situation, but i do not know if it could be fixed. I do not want to say anything else right now.

I will chack in later today and see what you say.

In the meantime, Here is the help page, you might find an answer there: http://www.paranorma...ore&module=help

I am sure we can find a solution of some sort.

Regards, Canis

IE 8 is (IMO) a garbage browser, it's slow and (again IMO) not as good as 7. Having said that, I rarely use IE, except we have to at work. Firefox, I have no trouble with

OH YEAH!?

Well Firefox is a big stinky doody-head browser! (IMO)

LOL!

Ahh, the beauty of our online family. :) You get plenty of differing opinions. Actually, I don't have a lot of experience with IE V.8 It seems to be working great so far, but I have only been using it for a couple hours now. I guess time will tell for sure. I will post in here again if it slows down or gets "crashy" on me.

Sorry folks. The new version of the board is here to stay. The few issues that people are having
Can easily be fixed if advise that is being given is taken. The security of the new site is MUCH
better than the older version. We can do a lot more with this new version of the forum than we could
with the older one. And there are A lot of really cool new features in the upgrade. People really do need
to focus on the POSITIVE instead of pointing out the few faults. Because believe me the positives of this
new version, far, FAR out-weigh the negatives.. And I do mean by FAR!!

Do I have my complaints of the new upgrade? You bet.. I have decided I am going to
keep my grievances to myself, and I'm going to give the new board a chance before jumping all over it.

And I have to say that I am a little disappointed with attitude of some people regarding the upgrade.
The site has only been upgraded for a little over 24 hours, and people are complaining without really
giving the upgrade a fair shake. Yes, the layout is different, yes, the skins weren't the same, yes
this is different, yes, that is different. Time and things change. You may not like it now, but honestly,
Have you really given it a chance? We went through the SAME thing when the older forum crashed in 2004, and
the new version of the board came out.

BlueRose, why don't you try what Canis has suggested. The bugs went away when he upgraded is IE, and he didn't have to sacrifice the magnifying glass. Technology changes, and unfortunately sometimes we have to
change along with it, or get let behind.

Jill.. Are the things you're speaking of bots or search engines? Because if so, I believe I can do
something about it in the backroom. Let me know, and I will see what I can do.

Thanks everyone for the info. I'm glad to hear that we don't loose the magnifying glass because it seems to me I heard that we loose it in IE 8 so that's why I didn't want to upgrade it.

Helena ~ I'm sorry if I upset you. I was just a little frustrated because it took me over an hour to be able to finally make a post asking for help. If we don't post what our problems are then how are we to fix the problem. When ever we do an upgrade there is always bound to be problems since there are so many people using different programs. I'm sure once we iron out all our problems the new board will be great.

I know you and the other Mods work hard on this forum and we are grateful for all you do. I know it's not easy for you guys either when there is an upgrade. My only complaint was not being able to get in. I know one thing I really like about it so far and that is the auto spell check. :D

Edited to add: Oh I see what Jill_Skellington is talking about. Just under the last post there are links to "Share" the thread to these other places.

My thoughts on this... the old board was better. Time will only change my mind. I don't like change... but I am not unhappy otherwise. The site is running fine on my computer. I am not complaining by any means, just stating my opinion. I am sure the new board will grow on me as well as others, but right now it's different.

Guys -

I'm just a simple moderator, but trust me when I say that the administrative staff of Ghost Study is working very diligently to bring you, the members, a better paranormal experience (pun intended). Over the past several weeks, we've seen significant updates to the main site, the creation of a Facebook profile and group which broadcasts a wide variety of interesting articles, new sub forums in our community and, now, the upgrade of the forum itself. While some of this, especially the upgrade, may be a shock to the system, trust me when I say that everything is for the best.

In regards to the upgrade, this is something that NEEDED to be done. Please understand that we very much value and appreciate your feedback and opinions, but there's an old saying about not being able to please everybody, every time. I've done significant digging around on the new forum, and I will tell you that one benefit of the new forum is the added sense of security in every sense of the word. With some of the new tools now available to staff members, we'll be able to respond to problems on the forum in an even more timely manner.

With all of that being said, please remember that the admins have been working so diligently, because they want to keep you, the members that the entire staff values and loves, happy. In working so hard, they've invested a lot of themselves in these projects, and to consistently hear negative feedback is, I'm sure, quite off-putting. Please work with the staff, and especially the administrators, through this time of change, and adapt to the new forum. I'm sure that once you get the hang of it, you'll find that it's superior to the old one in many ways.

If you have any serious technical issues, or need help locating any of the old or new functions, we'll do our best to help you.

Your friend,

OffDutyCop

I have discovered that all email addresses are now visible. (Thanks Canis!) If you do not want your email address shown in your profile, go into your drop-down menu by your name. Go into `My settings`. From `My settings`go into `Notification Options` and check `Hide My Email address from other members`.

Only members will be able to see email addresses, as guests do not have the ability to veiw members profiles.

There are other notifications that you can turn on or off in that section as well.

I don't have problem with the change, I just miss the Return to Top button or something like that that was here on the left and well other then that.. I have no problem with anything on here but I am on Firefox too as well for a browser.
Someone had mentioned how posts can end up on other blog sites and other places.. yes I have seen that before and it bites..
I hate that when people copy cat because they don't want to load their own information up themselves so they have to use
others stuff and call it their own very irritating!
I know exactly what that one poster was speaking of, but I have never seen it happen here yet.. but on another forum I have seen it done.. where someone just merrily took off with some of our postings from another forum I am on and used it for their own forum and usage.. I was not happy.. and reported them to our administrators that did more investigating and got their forum secured after that.. which was good :) but it does happen.
Interested in spirits and the history of places..
Peace and Blessings, Lynne'
Lately that is how I feel lol :)

Hi Helena - I have the browser working properly now, which is awesome. (no freezing and such) I had no complaints except the feeders, which I see you fixed--everything else is fantastic. I thank you and all people involved in the upgrades. On the girly side, I think the new skins/boards are pretty.:ashamed0002::innocent0005:

Another thing..on the main board menu, it doesn't show when the last post in a forum was made, and the new post indicators are not obvious to me

Clicking on "view new content" will show you that information in an easy-to-read format.

From the board index, it doesn't show up, that is why there is the "view new content" button. When you go into each forum, new content will be shown. The legend is at the bottom of each forum.
