Has anyone here experienced a “delayed” haunting? You moved somewhere and lived there peacefully for months - or even years - before having activity in the home?

No first hand experience...But, I have heard of stories where it was all peace and quiet until a remodel occurred and something was stirred up.

Not to sound overly sematic, but it's best to understand or be on level-playing ground with the term "haunting". According to merriam-webster's definition of "an act of haunting", best described to them is a visitation or inhabitation by a ghost. My own impression of a haunting is more to a "disruption of human activity presented by the supernatural occurring more than once is a short period of time. Clearly a singular event can be mundane but repeated visitations can be a sign of "I want to be noticed."
I live in a century old house and periodically unexplained visual phenomena has occurred. Mostly, quick moving black masses that last just a second or two. I've attributed it to eyesight problems for the most part.
Although one time while testing the real-time audio recording from a digital voice recorder late at night on the verge of sleep, I had a woman address me by my first and last name while monitoring. This wasn't an EVP but an AVP which has heard vocal characteristics that EVP's do not. The fact that I heard my first and last name called out and have it recorded tells me something was definitely trying to get my attention, thus I see this phenomena as more substantial. To give a short background, I had been researching EVP work throughout the night looking for theories and cases more closely to identify origins. I believe it was through my intense acknowledgement, I woke something up.
As to other cases, on several of our indoor investigations, a common denominator of renovation of the household pointed to the theory of awakening. I haven't directly encountered it but cases our team has investigated have pointed to an awakening perceived by the client. Our frequent mainstay location was a mid 1850 Palladian mansion that seemed to wake up with renovations and a small child's presence.

I've heard pretty much the same thing. The entire house was fine and nothing happened until they began remodeling the house. I can't remember where I heard it, but it was something I read about before happening to a couple. It's just not coming to me as of right now.

I've also heard this, as soon as you start to renovate it becomes active, the ghost docent like the change.
