It would take a massive amount of LSD to absorb into the skin. More than what a temp tattoo could be composed of, methinks. Not sure about strychnine, tho'. This is the first I've ever heard of this tale.

Wow Yuri - those are a couple of freaky stories you've got there.  I don't know how you slept as a kid.
With the loss of my dad and my sister in law and neither of them coming to visit I find myself a little more skeptical these days.  Having said that though I still jump when things go bump in the night :)

Well i slept fine as a kid and sleeps well now  sometimes if i dosent read to scary thing like this one

SHADOWS IN MIRRORS
There was once a woman who lived by herself in a quaint house in the country. Her husband had passed away about 5 years back and she was planning on moving soon.

One day, while packing up some of her husbands things, she noticed that the temperature dropped really low. She walked down the hall to check the thermostat, but when she got there it showed no difference in temp. She thought about it but figured that it must be broken. She decided that she would call someone the next day to fix it. When she passed the mirror on the wall on her way back she thought she saw a movement of shadows in the reflection. Then the temperature soon returned returned to normal and when she looked back at the mirror nothing was there. She shrugged and went back to packing.

A couple of days later the temperature dropped again. Again the woman went to the thermostat and again it showed no change. She remembered that she had forgotten to call some one to repair it. She promised herself that she would call after her show on T.V. that she had been watching. When she passed the mirror she again saw the movement of shadows. She stopped. In the reflection she saw a shadow, nothing but a shadow. Slightly translucent but visible. The shape was indescribable. It changed shape, like water, flowing, about the size of a tall person. It stepped out from the wall behind the woman, but when she turned around to face it there was nothing there. Now she was scared. She began to tremble. Slowly she turned back to the mirror. The figure was still there, and closer. She screamed out "HEEEEELLPPP!!!" but no one came.

Closer and closer IT came.....

* * *

A few weeks later a friend of the woman's stopped by to say Hi. she knocked and knocked but there was no answer. The next day a cop came out to investigate, but he found nothing but a few empty boxes and the TV on. It was put down as unsolved. The house was soon cleaned out and put out on the market.

* * *

For years the house was empty, what with all of the stories going around about it. But one day a small family consisting of a mother, father and daughter- moved in from the city.

All was well for a while until one day when the temperature dropped. The daughter went to her parents and asked them what happened. They said they didn't know and they went to the thermostat to see. It showed no change in temperature. They decided to call someone. The daughter went back to playing with her dolls in her room. Had she looked up into her mirror she would have seen a shadow peeking from behind the reflection of her bed. But just then her parents come in to tell her that someone was coming the next day to fix the thermostat and that she'll have to deal with it for a while, but when they finished saying this the temperature went back to normal. The parents said never mind.

A few weeks later the temperature dropped again. The girl was brushing her hair at the time, in front of her mirror. She saw the shadow behind the reflection as it started to creep towards her. She screamed. Her parents came in asking what she saw. She told them but they didn't believe her. She tried to make them believe her but it was of no use. They took her to a psychologist for a few months to get her help.

When she came home she believed it was all a figment of her imagination. She probably would have kept believing that except that about a year later the temperature dropped once again. The girl was by herself because her parents had gone to the store and left her alone, since she was 11 years old. She was experimenting with make-up at the time, in front of her mothers mirror. She stared in terror as the THING crept out from behind the bed. She trembled but didn't call out, she knew no one would come. And now, as done before, the THING came closer and closer, closer and closer.....

* * *

When the girls parents came home they had no one to come home to

One of my favorites...
-------------------------

A woman (call her Diane) lived in Manhattan but went every weekend to visit her mother in Queens, who lived alone and looked forward to her only daughter's company.  Diane usually left just after dinner, but she stayed late one Saturday to finish watching a movie on TV with her mother.  By the time Diane left, it was almost midnight.  She hesitated about going home at this late hour, but had to work in Manhattan in the morning and decided to brave the subway after all.

The train car was deserted for most of the trip to Manhattan.  Diane sat by herself, grateful for a quiet ride.  But when the subway stopped at one of the seedier parts of town, three men climbed onto the train.  One of them couldn't walk by himself and he had his arms over his friends' shoulders so they could help him along.  He must be drunk, Diane thought, and moved a few seats down so she wouldn't have to sit anywhere near the men.  At first, the two men eyed her for a while, but they didn't say anything and went back to minding their own business.  Nor did they say anything to their drunk friend, who seemed to have passed out long before.  His head rested on one man's shoulder.

A few stops later, one of the men got up.  He nodded to the other man and then patted the drunk on the shoulder.  "Stay cool, Frank" he said before stepping off the train.

The other man shifted a little in his seat and gave Diane another look.  She looked away, hoping he would concentrate on Frank and not on her.  And a few stops later, that man stood up too.  "Take care, man" he said to Frank, propping the drunken man's head gently against the window and giving him a pat on the shoulder.  He too stepped off the train.

Now Diane and Frank were alone in the subway car.  She wondered which stop was Frank's.  He was obviously too drunk to notice anyway, and she wondered why his friends would just leave him alone on the train like that.  If they cared, they would have stayed with him until he made it home.  Maybe she should say something, Diane thought.  She moved a few seats closer.

"Hey, mister..." she said.  But Frank didn't even stir.  "Hey mister!" Diane said, louder this time, but still no reply.

Then the train rounded a sharp turn.  Frank slid from his seat and slumped into the aisle.  That's when Diane saw it...the blood tricking from a bullet hole just above Frank's ear.

"The Beautiful Young Vanishing Hitchhiking Woman"

A young man had just left a party given my some of his friends.  As he started down the road it was about 12:30 am and pouring down rain. He had only driven about 2 miles when he saw this faint figure walking on the side of the road.  As he got closer, he realized it was a young woman, for she was wearing a long white dress.  He pulled over and asked her if she would like a ride. He figured she had came from the party.  She said she would and hopped in the front seat.  He noticed she was shivering from the rain and so he took off his jacket and offered it to her.  She gladly accepted and put the jacket on.  The talked about where they were from and other basic chit chat and she told him where to drive her to.  The young man was overwhelmed by how beautiful the girl was.  When he pulled up in front of her house, he was going to ask her out, but when he went around to the passenger side door, it was open and she was gone.  He was a little confused, but figured she had just gotten nervous and ran into the house.  The following day, the young man realized the girl left in such a hurry, that she forgot to leave his jacket.  He remembered the directions to her house, and drove there since he did not a phone number to call.

He knocked on the door and a woman answered. The young man told her he was there to pick up the jacket from whom he assumed was her daughter.  The woman looked him strangely and then began smiling.  She then told him about her daughter that had died in a car accident ten years ago.  The young man was horrified and did not believe her.  The woman asked him to follow her.  While they were walking, the woman told the man that this was not the first time this has happened and for him to not be upset. The woman stopped at what looked to be a family cemetary and pointed to the far right.  The young man walked over and there laying on the headstone was his jacket.

eek, that voice in the attic was a scary story...lol it was worth the long read!

my turn, yay..
this is one of my absolute favorite urban legends, and it just happens to be true!

Claim:   The "hanging man" in a funhouse turns out to be the corpse of an outlaw.
Status:   True.

Origins:   In
December 1976 a Universal Studios camera crew arrived at the Nu-Pike Amusement Park in Long Beach, California, to film an episode of the television action show, the Six Million Dollar Man. In  preparing the set in a corner of the funhouse, a worker moved the "hanging man," causing one of this prop's arms to come off. Inside it was human bone. This was no mere prop; this was a dead guy!

The body was that of Elmer McCurdy, a young man who in 1911 robbed a train of $46 and two jugs of whiskey in Oklahoma. He announced to the posse in pursuit of him that he would not be taken alive. He was proved right -- they killed him in the ensuing shoot-out.

McCurdy began his career as a sideshow attraction right after his embalming. He looked so darned good dressed up in his fancy clothes that the undertaker propped him up in a corner of the funeral home's back room and charged locals a nickel to see "The Bandit Who Wouldn't Give Up." The nickels were dropped into the corpse's open mouth (from where they were later retrieved by the entreprenurial undertaker).

No next of kin showed up to claim McCurdy, so the corpse kept mouthing nickels for a few years. Carnival promoters wanted to buy the stiff, but the undertaker turned them down. McCurdy was producing a steady income for the funeral parlor -- why tamper with success?

In 1915, two men showed up and claimed that McCurdy was their brother. They hauled the body away,  supposedly to give him a decent burial in the family plot. In reality, McCurdy's "brothers" were carnival promoters and this was a ruse to get the deceased away from that proprietary undertaker. The promotors exhibited McCurdy throughout Texas under the same billing as the undertaker had given him -- "The Bandit Who Wouldn't Give Up."

After that tour, McCurdy popped up everywhere, including an amusement park near Mount Rushmore, lying in an open casket in a Los Angeles wax museum, and in a few low-budget films. Before the Six Million Dollar Man crew discovered this prop to be a corpse, McCurdy had been hanging in that Long Beach funhouse for four years.

In April 1977, the much-traveled Elmer McCurdy was laid to final rest in Summit View Cemetery in Guthrie, Oklahoma. To make sure the corpse would not make its way back to the entertainment world, the state medical examiner ordered two cubic yards of cement poured over the coffin before the grave was closed. McCurdy hasn't been seen hanging around amusement parks since.

there's an urban legand in my home town, it's actually true, even though most who hear it are like "nah, funny, but fabricated". i know it's true because my mother was a teachers aid and my bro went to that highshcool at the time, amnd who who did it. it's not paranormal, but i figure i should just say it anyways: a bunch of students hid in the janitors closet video taping a amataur porno...and long story short, one of the girls had to go to the hospital to get a hot dog removed from a "certain area."  they were expelled.

Hi,

Here are some superstitions or urban legends i've heard of, do you know some of them ? Did you experience some ?

Aichacondicha
----------------

This seems to be a superstitions from Maghreb. If you look at a mirror at midnight and say "Aichacondicha", a woman appears in the mirror, and if you turn your eyes she would take your soul.
The alt. version is not to say her name, whatever the time. she is supposed to be a witch in Maghreb countries.

Bloody Mary
--------------

Another version on the previous one. If you say "Bloody Mary, i killed your baby" three times in front of a mirror, a bloody woman would appear in the mirror and take your soul.

Anako-San
------------

Japanese urban legend. If you say "Anako-San" three times in the girls restroom, the ghost of a little girl appear. The story doesnt say what happens next....

Devil in the mirror
---------------------

If you put a flame behind a mirror and look in the mirror, you will see the Devil and you wil die/faint/vanish...

Now i know why I hate mirrors...

Running around your house
--------------------------------

At midnight, run around your house twelve times. On the twelth time, someone will chase you around the house.

If you feel brave enough, try these things and tell us if something happened. I'm too chicken to try  laugh.gif

Sometimes in the morning after I just got up I think I can see the Devil in my mirror, just to come to the conclusion I need to shave, stay out of the sun and fix my hairdo smile.gif

But seriously , I don't think I'll try either of these things w00t.gif

... and as for this one:

I live in a row of houses, I cannot run 12 times around it ... by the 3rd time I'll be walking watching out I don't trip on my own tongue and by the 7th time I hope my neighbor calls the Ambulance or I won't be able to see the 9th lap ! ohmy.gif Okay, that one sounds really creepy!

The only one I've ever really heard of was bloody Mary, and I've never tried it and don't plan to.  There's a thread on that somewhere around here where you can read members' opinions on this one.

I read a testimony on a frech website where a guy tried the "twelve time running" and he said he was chased by something.

But maybe it's just auto-suggestion...

Bloody Mary continued-

I heard that if you look into a dark hole (hole in the wall, or whatever) and say Bloody Mary three times and spin around three times with your eyes closed and look into the hole again her bloody face appears. I tried this in daycare and it is true! Not kidding- I actually saw a horrible, albeit very tiny, bloody female face. I was looking into the supply shed, which was pitch dark.

Another thing, I heard if you repeat Bloody Mary three times into a mirror it forever warps the mirror. I've never been brave enough to try the mirror thing- but I sure wish ONE OF YOU would do it for me and let me know how it turns out LOL tongue.gif
