Have You Ever Been Awakened By A Voice Saying Your Name?

Yes. I was ready to fall asleep when I heard my name and it woke me up.
If so, was it a familiar voice?
In one case, it was a male voice....I would think it was probably my grandfather who passed away when I was a toddler. The other case, it was just a whisper.
Did you notice anything unusual about its sound?
The male voice sounded was in a normal talking tone, but did sound a bit distant.
With the whisper, there was nothing unusual about the tone as far as echo or it's distinctions go. I was in the living room on the couch and thought it was one of my folks trying to get my attention abuot something in the house but I looked around and no one was there (everyone was asleep and didn't get up in the middle of the night)
Anything different when you awoke?
Not really...a little bit startled but not enough to really alarm me.
Did you take it as a warning, just as unusual, or didn't give it another thought?
I found the whisper to be unusual because our house is fairly new so there's not so much history behind it. It was unusual because I didn't know if it was male or female. I just remember the whisper and turning around to see no one there.

I can't remember being called by my name
But I have heard many unfamiliar voices both male and female while awake, before sleep, and upon waking. It is usually associated to my immediate family , where I am able to verify some aspect of what I have heard.
I can remember waking and hearing a child crying... my daddy's dead, my daddy's dead!
If so, was it a familiar voice?
I didn't recognise the voice only that it was a young girl
Did you notice anything unusual about its sound?
No, it just sounded like someone was very upset. You could say it would be a normal reaction of the loss of a loved one.
Anything different when you awoke?
I felt anxious and rang my parents and spoke to my mother. In general conversation, I ask how everyone was and what they were doing. I was relieved to find they were both well. My mother commented, it was strange, she couldn't contact her sister for their usual weekly phone call. Mum rang later to say my cousin had unexpectedly died that morning after going to hospital. His family wanted his 4 young children to have the opportunity to see their father and to say goodbye his youngest was only weeks old. His 4 year old daughter had cried, my daddy's cold. Not exactly "My daddy's dead" but close enough for me!
Did you take it as a warning, just as unusual, or didn't give it another thought?
Yes, I did at the time. I just needed to know my dad was okay. I also have kept journals of what I have heard and dreamt.
Do you consider yourself a more skeptical person, don't care ether way, or have always believed?
I am a believer

Yes, my mother's voice, in this house. I have lived here 4 years, and it is in a state that my mother has never traveled to. And she is very much alive.
If so, was it a familiar voice?
See above.
Did you notice anything unusual about its sound?
Nothing unusual. It seemed to be within the room.
Anything different when you awoke?
No.
Did you take it as a warning, just as unusual, or didn't give it another thought?
I'd forgotten about it until I read your question. But it was like an interrruption of the dream I'd been having, like it shattered the reality of the dream world beyond my control (I sometimes have lucid dreams)

Come to think about it, I have.
If so, was it a familiar voice?
My mums
Did you notice anything unusual about its sound?
Not really, it sounded just like mum calling me name. I even shouted back "YEAAAH????" and woke my girlfriend.
Anything different when you awoke?
I can't say for sure.
Did you take it as a warning, just as unusual, or didn't give it another thought?
Unusual, I marked it down as a dream.
If No, Do you consider yourself a more skeptical person, don't care ether way, or have always believed in the paranormal?
I'm not a skeptic, but i'm not one to just go around claiming every strange occurrence as paranormal.

i woke to a child's voice saying "mommy". my immediate reaction was that one of my boys had called me, but two things came to mind quickly, one was that their bedrooms were on the other side of the house and the voice sounded like it was right next to me, two was that my boys NEVER said "mommy" they always said "momma". so i lay there for a while listening and just chalked it up to a dream.
i eventually forgot about this. then when my daughter started talking she called me mommy, even though every one was saying momma.

Yes, it sounded like my grandmother
Did you notice anything unusual about its sound? (like - echo like, a whisper, piercing, startling, distant, above, below, all around, etc)
Sounded like it came from my right ear which was facing up at the time and it sounded like not a whisper or piercing.
Anything different when you awoke? (Colder, hotter, felt different, felt at peace, tingly, frightened, etc.)
I was alarmed at first and then suspicious on what caused the voice
Did you take it as a warning, just as unusual, or didn't give it another thought?
Felt unprepared that I experienced the voice, confident in my ability to sleep well in the first 30min before the voice occurred, mystified that I heard the voice and curious to what causes the voice. I would say my body's temp is at a nice warm state.
If No, Do you consider yourself a more skeptical person, don't care ether way, or have always believed in the paranormal? (Adjusted question to be more fair to skeptics...Yes that's you, Canis.)
It could have been caused by a change in atmosphere in the ear canal. Dreams do not create audio as far as I'm aware.

Yes. Many times recently both my mother and myself have been hearing my voice being called out sternly late at night.
If so, was it a familiar voice?
From the tone, it could have been my deceased father, but it's very hard to tell if the voice is male or female.
Did you notice anything unusual about its sound?
Yes. The room became very warm, and following the voice the sound of a loud POP could be heard.
Anything different when you awoke?
The room felt warmer than usual, and the popping sound following the voice.
Did you take it as a warning, just as unusual, or didn't give it another thought?
I did wonder (and still am) why it's calling out MY name, but I'm so used to mega-activity in my house that I don't ponder it too much.
If No, Do you consider yourself a more skeptical person, don't care ether way, or have always believed in the paranormal?
I've been communicating with spirits since I was old enough to talk, so I guess I must say that I've always been a true believer.

No, I was wide awake.
If so, was it a familiar voice?
Yes, the first time it was a woman I knew who died just days before (she had a very distinct voice), and the second time it was my own voice.
Did you notice anything unusual about its sound?
(like - echo like, a whisper, piercing, startling, distant, above, below, all around, etc)
No, it sounded like it was right next to me, it's possible it was a little distant but not hard to hear by any means.
Anything different when you awoke?
(Colder, hotter, felt different, felt at peace, tingly, frightened, etc.)
No, I was wide awake.
Did you take it as a warning, just as unusual, or didn't give it another thought?
Just found it as unusual the first time it happened and brought it up again a few times. Turns out the woman I heard the first time was heard by her relatives roughly about the same time I heard her, weird. The second time, when it was my voice, I stayed as far away from that area as possible.
If No, Do you consider yourself a more skeptical person, don't care ether way, or have always believed in the paranormal? I consider myself as a skeptical believer, or the "approach with caution" type.

Will not invade the sacred shrine, Nor infiltrate your mind
My life down I shall lie, If the bogey-man should try
To play tricks on your sacred mind, To tease, torment and tantalize
Wavering shadows loom, A piano plays in an empty room
They`ll be blood on the cleaver tonight. ~ The Smiths

If so, was it a familiar voice? Yes, it sounded just like my Mother.
Did you notice anything unusual about its sound? I was in bed and heard what I thought was my Mother calling my name. It sounded loud, as if she was in the room with me or just inside the doorway to my room. I got up and went to her room and asked her if she had called me. She said, "No, it wasn't me."
Anything different when you awoke? No, everything felt the same, because my room is always cold, in the Spring, Summer and Fall I have the AC in my room running full blast. During the Winter, I have the heat off in my room and the window cracked.
Did you take it as a warning, just as unusual, or didn't give it another thought? No, I didn't take it as a warning. It wasn't anything unusual for my home. It's been haunted, for as far back as I can remember.

When I did, I described to her what I saw and heard. It was her uncle.
