I guess it's just the lighting... unless we're dealing with possessed souls or zombies!  :o  But just in case, you better get behind me, Klainey. I'll light the way ahead. :investigate:

It's the photo reflective effect commonly known as red eye when a flash is shot on a similar plane to the eye and lens. Many softwware programs have a red eye reduction in the editing mode. Shooting images of birds it's commonly known as "steel eye". Shooting OCF (off camera flash) or bouncing the flash off a wall or ceiling would solve this issue.

There are still traces of red eye on the gals on the far left and right.

In my opinion the black mass is face paint.

I ran the image through 'ImageEdited?' and the pixels only match software editors.

MacC... I recently ran a family photo through that program and came up with similar results and there was no editing done to the picture. So I really don't trust it.

Hmmm..  If it's not something supernatural, I would have to go with the acne remover, also.  Not sure what else it could be if it is indeed explainable.

Really Jim? Hmm, that's strange because I ran one of my own photo's through it and it came up correct. Here's the photo and a capture of ImageEdited?. Was the photo you ran from a digital camera or one that was a printed photo uploaded via a scanner?

MacC... I have been meaning to ask you... would you mind not posting the entire print out of EXIF data on forum posts. It's really distracting. Maybe just report your findings? I hope you understand.

It was a digital camera to my computer and then to imageedited.com. I'll try a few more pics at some point just to be sure. Sorry to offend.

Bless you, SpukiKitty!

That's one of the two pics I was looking for! I'm glad you found the Goo Man too... that was a popular one back in 2013!  :)

I believe there's one more but I can't remember much about it other than it was a man.

Thank you for finding the picture, SpukiKitty!  :carrot:

Could she be marked by a supernatural force... or cursed!

Here's what else I found on the web
"5 years ago, this picture was taken in Belgium when a family was on vacation. Now, taking the photo out of storage, a girl was aghast at the condition of the older woman's face in the image. It almost looks like it's a mask of some gross, burned thing. Paranormal enthusiasts claim it's proof this woman has been cursed in some way."

Was the one you couldn't find an old group photo where a guy in back had a messed up face?

Are you talking about a black face? Or the Goo Face Man that you linked to? I was trying to find the goo man picture too, so I'm glad you linked it.  :)

I don't think or believe it is something paranormal. Looks a bit fishy to me :)
I remember having my first paranormalbook filled with strange pictures of ghosts.
I remember seeing pictures of people with what they called ectoplasm. Google: famous ectoplasm pictures. In those days they had cardboard or linnen to create this effect. Now, in 2017 it's photoshop..facepaint or a acne removerstrip.I agree that one eye looks like it's been fixed for the red eye. I alsow agree with a earlier comment about thinking it's a sort of programm where you can "smooth" your skin on the picture. You can also make your skin colour look for example green or purple. You can choose the section you want to alter.

Jim, I am offended, I don't find it distracting; I find it educational. If I can download an image from a digital camera into my PC via a scanner and not come up with a problem on 'ImageEdited?' it begs to wonder why yours do.

I like seeing the EXIF data. It's just as valid a way of analyzing photos as any other, and usually can prove manipulation, etc

Ok, fair warning for MacC and Jim. Don't you guys start fighting over this stuff, neither of you are too old for me to take you over my knee and give you a good spanking with a wooden spoon.

MacC... I ran 3 more photos thru imageedited.com and they all checked out. Maybe the one I ran thru the other day was just a flute. So I won't hold that against the program.

I will PM you about the other issue.

Um, well my Mom used to do that and also with her hand and belt; never worked I was too used to it. I used to get in trouble all the time, even for half the things my siblings did. My Mom got me to cry the first time after that I developed a high tolerance for pain, but feel free to try. ;)

Jim, that program isn't a perfect analysis tool and EXIF can in fact be altered fairly easily. Regardless, it can offer a baseline evaluation that can aid in the discovery of tell tale signs of alteration. It seems to point the finger of suspiciion when most, if not all EXIF data, has been removed from the image. If one was to really consider alteration at it's lowest level, even an exposure adjustment could be considered a modification. Image analysis through data evaluation isn't a definitive but it allows us to apply logical concepts to form an educated perspective.
