(I think this is the right forum; forgive me if it is not.)

What are some tried and true ways to research a very specific area to find out who might have died there? We have begun google searching with little success, and our little town does have a newspaper archive going back to the Civil War, but it is on microfilm and is only searchable by hand at the moment. I'm not even sure what the most efficient way to tackle those microfilm are.

Has anyone else done that level of research? Any tips you could share?

Forum works for me ;) As for research it might all have to be done manually. The only other thing I can think of is if there are any genealogy groups they might be worthwhile checking out! You could also try the newspapers like http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/ or https://news.google.com/newspapers. Good luck and keep us posted :)

I've never researched anything like that but lots of paranormal shows talk about reaching out to historical societies.  You could try that.
