Hi, new here, so bear with me, I took the attached photo, among others, during a visit to a disused underground reservoir at Papplewick, near Nottingham, UK. No other photo shows the mist that is clearly seen. I passed it off as perhaps condensation or a trick of the light, but a friend of mine - and a couple of random others - have told me they can see 'spirits' in the picture. To me, it's a mist. Any comments?

I would be inclined to think it's condensation created by the the differences in air temperature and the ruin stones. Shouldn't we seek natural causes first until there is more compelling evidence of something unusual? Also seeing faces in mist can be easily explained by our minds finding continuity in the chaos. It's a self preservation skill and a natural reaction associated with infants looking into their mothers face and recognizing the parent.

That would be my view, too, EVP. I can't see any faces, others have told me they see 'spirits'. I'm interested to see what others might say. To clarify, I took several pictures within about a minute (iPhone 6 point and click) and no others show the mist. trick of the light?

Welcome to the forums, Mercuryg... glad you found us!

I guess we can't count it... but it's a spooky photo just the same. ;)

And for fun, I see a ghostly image in the lower right hand corner of the photo. And it looks like the figure had jumped into picture at the last minute with it's hands/arms up! I know, I have a strange imagination.  :)

Cool photo though!

Thanks for the welcome; I'm no 'die hard believer'  but have had some very unusual experiences. As this pic has garnered interest elsewhere, I thought I'd share it here. Meanwhile, I shall take some time out to have a look around the site.

Welcome. I just see mist.

I googled Papplewick Reservoir to see other photos.  Wow!! That place is amazing! It looks like something from a Jules Verne novel.

The reservoir is part of Papplewick Pumping Station, which originally pumped water from 200ft down to supply Nottingham, in the 1870's.The steam-powered beam engines that did the work are still working today, all original, and pretty amazing. Great place to visit.

Welcome!

Just mist/condensation IMO.  SOme people see a mist in a spooky place and try to see stuff that isn't there, kind of like seeing shapes in the clouds

Nice picture. I think it is mist or something. But then i'm thinking; why doesn't it show on the other pictures then? ( if they are made within a minute)
Does anyone have a idea about that? Or an explanation?

It could be condensation from the photographer's breath

Doesn't really look like typical breath in front of the lens... but I'm sure it's a possibility.

Me too, Jim.   I've seen mist do some really eerie stuff.  And then not be there the next minute.  It gives you goosebumps although I'm sure there is a logical explanation for it.

Lighting and angle of the lens can emphasize mist more clearly. One could just be watching through a patch of fog persay and that would explain why it disappears. Movement of just 6 inches can make the fog/mist/condensation disappear let alone disperse from a persons movement.

I could possibly make a case for shapes in the fog, but I think it is because the mist and the brick column on the right combine to suggest faces
