I haven't put a video on my iPod yet, but I did a quick search and found this program. It is free and converts video to the proper format (MPEG-4 & H.264) for use on the iPod.  I'd probably download that and give it a shot. Let me know if it works!

Forgot to link to the program  rolleyes.gif

Do you have iTunes on your computer?  That's how you make playlists.. or you can make one inside the iPod once you've put all your music on it. It is pretty easy, I can help if you want. Just let me know.
