Here's a happy-go-lucky tale (below) I wrote about a group of interesting individuals caught up in some interesting stuff and coming together through the simple magic of movies.

What is it about movies that stirs our fancy about 'human excitement'?

I'm a big fan of the psyche-jargon films L.A. Story, The Dream Team, Bad News Bears, and The Cave.

If you live in America, you can either embrace its Hollywood culture or feel alienated by the pedestrian melee, so I try to cheer 'carnival atmospherics.'

Is this the American campfire tradition?

Do you have a favorite 'culture movie'?

THE JAWS GANG (May 2017)

The World Gang as it was called became a fixed part of American culture, a mix of servicemen, civil servants, pure soldiers, engineers, historians, tradesmen, and organic farmers. Members from G.I. Joe and Cobra were part of the World Gang, and they all kept in touch with their phones and enjoyed watching TV and playing golf together. They also owned a timeshare in Switzerland (sponsored by President Donald Trump). Snake-Eyes was married to Mara whom she met during a special G.I. Joe mission to infiltrate Cobra's under-water base underneath the Scripps Institute of Oceanography in California. Duke was married to Scarlett, which made sense since both were leaders of G.I. Joe.

Baroness and Pythona were married to Shipwreck and Storm-Shadow and were happy sharing time and space with G.I. Joes such as Snake-Eyes even though they were former enemies under Cobra command. The World Gang wanted to plan a group trip to EuroDisney in the Summer of 2017, but funding was not there from the Trump Administration, so they opted to go to SeaWorld on a special discount package offered by Senator Hillary Clinton. At SeaWorld, Snake-Eyes and Mara spent most of their time alone watching the dolphins but Lady Jaye also joined them for a spell, since her brother Damien could not attend with the group. Baroness and Pythona were romancing Shipwreck and Storm-Shadow when suddenly an ISIS terrorist group stormed inside.

The World Gang was held hostage and the ISIS faction demanded that President Trump pay a hefty ransom to save this 'cultural Dream Team.' Trump ordered $25 million to be shipped into SeaWorld so the hostages would not be harmed. However, as everyone waited, Duke and Lady Jaye wriggled out of their ropes and untied a few others and banded together to disarm and take down the ISIS team. President Trump awarded Duke and Lady Jaye with special medallions, and Storm-Shadow remarked, "This was the coolest trip to SeaWorld ever!" When they returned home, Duke purchased the entire Jaws film collection on Blu-ray disc, so the gang could enjoy the films at their timeshare in Switzerland and reminisce about their SeaWorld 'adventure' with ISIS. Senator Hillary Clinton remarked, "It's amazing how movies can bring people together!"

This tall-tale was inspired by the humanism films Alan Quartermain and the Lost City of Gold, Reservoir Dogs, and The Young Americans.

What do ya think, and does this story remind you of a favorite derring-do movie or fun movie scene? Please share!

THE BLUE FLOWER (May 2017)

Snake-Eyes moved through the jungles of the Amazon in search of a strange talking-flower which was supposedly an 'Oracle' that relayed the location of an ancient treasure which Cobra was trying to get its hands on before the G.I. Joes found it. Snake-Eyes was sent on the strange and dangerous mission by his commander Duke, who was waiting for him back in Washington. Snake-Eyes surmised that the talking-flower might be located in some patch of earth next to a pond and that the pond itself may hold some special significance.

Snake-Eyes was right to be cautious in the mission, since Cobra sent Storm-Shadow to find the talking-flower before Snake-Eyes did, and when the two confronted each other, there was an interesting dialogue.

SNAKE-EYES: What does Cobra want with the flower, Storm-Shadow?
STORM-SHADOW: Relax, we just want to study it...
SNAKE-EYES: That's a lie. You want to find the treasure to buy black market weapons.
STORM-SHADOW: Maybe, but I'm sure Washington is not squeaky-clean...
SNAKE-EYES: At least the G.I. Joes will see that the money helps the people.
STORM-SHADOW: We should look for it together (and decide later if we should peaceably cooperate)...

Snake-Eyes agreed with Storm-Shadow and the two searched for the strange talking-flower together in the Amazon in the hot summer of 2018. President Trump had told Duke that if America got its hands on the flower, which was rumored to exist and gossiped by the natives of South America, uncovering the treasure the flower led its finder to would help Americans feel very optimistic about government-sanctioned 'covert missions,' and Duke agreed. Snake-Eyes and Storm-Shadow finally came upon a patch of earth by a pond near which sat a hauntingly luscious blue flower!

Snake-Eyes and Storm-Shadow moved towards the flower and started coaxing it to see if it could actually talk, and when the flower started speaking the two paramilitary 'ninjas' were shocked. "So you want to know the location of the special treasure of the bold pirate Yellowbeard, eh? Well, it's hidden underground in California where a Hollywood movie studio now sits. That's all I can tell you!" Snake-Eyes and Storm-Shadow hurried back to their respective groups/bases (the former to G.I. Joe and the latter to Cobra) and informed their respective commanders, "The talking-flower told us the incredible treasure of Yellowbeard is hidden somewhere beneath a Hollywood movie studio!" Duke was shocked, since he was on his way to a movie studio with President Trump to begin work on a commissioned patriotism-themed Hollywood film about G.I. Joes tackling unsightly terrorism across the globe!

This short-story was inspired by my interest in the society-winning horse Arklow (winner of the 2017 American Turf Stakes preliminary race at the Kentucky Derby in Churchill Downs) and my love of the novel-adapted horse-praise film Black Beauty.

Isn't it interesting how modern 'media champagne culture' (e.g., Celebrity, America's Sweethearts, Pret-a-Porter, etc.) can be coordinated with civilization values (e.g., L.A. Confidential)?

I wonder how much society-chatter our First Lady (Melania Trump) is interested in, given that she must serve as a 'media diplomat' of sorts to our consumerism-centric U.S. President (Donald Trump), a former owner of Trump Taj Mahal casino in Atlantic City (New Jersey).

The Proposition

AJAY SATAN: Are you a fan of the James Bond film A View to a Kill?
TOM CRUISE: That's the one with the villain Max Zorin and horse-racing and Silicon Valley, yes I like it!
AJAY SATAN: Right, well, if you're entertained by horse-racing, I'm wondering if you want to invest in the Kentucky Derby with me.
TOM CRUISE: Do you bet on horses?
AJAY SATAN: I sponsor horses and give money-winnings to charities and horse-care organizations.
TOM CRUISE: What was your last win?
AJAY SATAN: I bet on the winning underdog-horse Arklow, who triumphed at the American Turf Stakes at Churchill Downs.
TOM CRUISE: Oh, I know Arklow! He was a huge underdog, a 13-1 odds to win! Wow, you won with that mighty underdog.
AJAY SATAN: Yes, and I bet $1 million, and I want you to share the profits and join me in marketing charities in the media.
TOM CRUISE: Do you work alone?
AJAY SATAN: My wife Shelbye helps me (our daughter is studying equine medicine). Would your family be interested in this?
TOM CRUISE: Yes, my wife and I have looked into veterinary medicine and animal rights through our Scientology group.
AJAY SATAN: We monitor the proper care and welfare of Arklow and could use someone in the 'celebrity spotlight.'
TOM CRUISE: I'd be happy to help, and my wife and kids would like to meet you and yours. Shall we 'tea' at the next Derby?
AJAY SATAN: Yes, maybe we'll go to Churchill Downs together, my new friend...
TOM CRUISE: Sounds great. Who says celebrities (movie-stars) are uninterested in society?
AJAY SATAN: I liked your car-racing film Days of Thunder, so I have to ask, does your wife like Halloween?
TOM CRUISE: She likes masquerade and revelry/festivity; why do you ask?
AJAY SATAN: I was thinking your wife and my wife could dress up as the eco-terrorist comic book villainess Poison Ivy.
TOM CRUISE: I see, so it would be a charity costume deed for, say, a Halloween animal-rights fundraiser for the Kentucky Derby!
AJAY SATAN: That's correct. We could call it The Veterinarian's Ball.
TOM CRUISE: Well, this all reminds me of the relevant 'society film' National Velvet (Elizabeth Taylor).

Yes, well, I like storytelling that invites readers with images taken from everywhere but with an easy-to-read collage approach (e.g., cut-and-paste).

Sort of like a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure book, which sort of captures what the movie-going experience is all about, no?

I was thinking, for example, the other day of characterizations of demons/demonology in iconic metaphysics-themed films such a Exorcist III.

IMO, there are two classes of 'demons' portrayed on film:

1. the malevolent and cunning
2. the goofy and bizarre

Whichever type of demon a film-maker wishes to explore will affect the brand of storytelling, it seems.

Why would a demon be malevolent/cunning? --- THEORY: to represent impatience
Why would a demon be goofy/bizarre? --- THEORY: to represent mischief

The first kind is presented in a film such as Wolfen, while the second kind is presented in a film such as Ghoulies.

Interesting...
