Ghostly child haunts Leicester's Haymarket Theatre

With the reopening of Leicester Theatre, we stop to look into the story of the ghost child who was said to have resided there.

There are two accounts that might explain who the ghost child was.

In one version he was a small boy who fell down a deep well and drowned, the other that a lad was crushed by a wayward barrel of beer.

The Theatre was built on the site of Victorian shops and pubs - which was rumoured to be the home of the ghostly boy.

He was probably from the Edwardian period due to his traditional sailor suit that was the fashion in that time period.  The ghostly boy - tended to keep out of the limelight.

Although he didn't liked being ignored!

During the production of 'Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat', A senior backstage staff supervisor was working late after the production. The supervisor noticed a boy dressed in a traditional sailor's suit moving from a props basket to the door on the stage.

The supervisor didn't think this was unusual as many children were involved in the production he just assumed the boy was a member of the cast.

However, on telling the boy he should not be backstage the boy vanished into thin air!

At different times actors and stage crews have seen the ghostly child only to have him disappear if approached.

Or Actors have reportedly seen the boy in their mirror only to turn around to find an empty room.

The ghostly boy was known to stand at the side of the stage during performances. During a production of 'Oliver', the director's upper leg was being grabbed and poked, like a child would do who is looking for attention.

While others have experienced punches to their upper legs, not unlike a child throwing a tantrum.
