Arrgh!, I had to wipe out my system to fix my PC. I had to return it to the factory settings. I lost everything on my PC. Now I have to start from scratch, but what really upsets me is I lost all my photos of my family. We're talking early 1900's onward. All my yard photos, games(50+) and music. There was over 18 hours of just Meat Loaf and another 12 hours of Loreena McKennitt and Connie Dover  I couldn't burn anything onto disc, because the DVD-ROM doesn't work and I haven't any UBS's for downloading back ups, nor an external hard drive.

When I re-downloaded Google Chrome, it won't play videos. I get a message saying, that I need to update the WidevineCdm, but when I try do that, it won't update. All I get is this message: "Status - Component not updated". Arrgh!

I have to go to bed now. I'm going to the King Richard's New England Renaissance Faire tomorrow. I've gone almost every year. I believe I've only missed 4 out of the 36 years it's been running. I love the BBQ turkey legs, they look and taste like ham.

I don't have a rescue file or disc. They didn't provide one when I bought the PC. Ugh.

MacC my condolences on the lost media. :investigate:

FYI: Microsoft generally doesn't provide "Recovery Discs" anymore, you have to make them yourself. Just ask your systems help thingy for "Create Recovery Drive" and be sure and put a check  in the Box that says something like "include system files". Most of the time when WIndows gits borked to the point you need the recovery drive it's one of the system files that's messed up so be very sure and include the system files

Oh and the "disk" will probably need to be a USB drive most likely in the 16GB range ... maybe you can make DVDs ... but I've never helped anyone with a DVD thingy on a computer in more than a decade so dunno.

Despite Klainey's cowardice you really should consider adding a second OS boot option  Just create a second partition of like 50GB and install a Linux flavour

That way when Windows inevitably fails you can boot into Linux and save everything  PLUS do everything that WIndows does

Oh and you can also just create a Linux usb and boot from that if you want BUT it runs much better on it's own drive

Here's what I bought at Sam's Club a year ago. I have so much on it! I think it was $29.00
Right now the online price at Sam's is 19.00 when it's in stock.

Posted Image

----------------------------

And this is the one I bought last July at Sam's Club... what a deal! I paid $39.00 on sale - otherwise $49.00
Online might be cheaper

Posted Image

I hope that helps... it's quick and easy.

------------------

Of course with all the videos and photos you collect... an external HD would be ideal.

Sorry, Mac.  It's maddening when it goes down and you lose. Jim offered up stuff that works.  I have My Passport but not the Ultra.

Thanks everyone for the help.

I'm starting to bead-weave a pen cover. It'll fit a Bic pen. This is the pattern.

MacC, how do you do beadwork? Do you do it freehand, or do you use a beading loom? I have a beading loom, but it's wonky to use.
Do whatever makes you happy, whatever fruits your loops.

Lol, I believe she is going to sell it, if a buyer wants a better pen, then they can spend the money on one.

I used to use a loom, but now I Square Stitch (aka False Loom). It looks like you've used a loom, but you don't. It's the strongest beading stitch.  You pass the thread through the bead three times. It uses more thread than what you'd use when looming, but the bead-work ends up more stable with the Square Stitch.

Is your loom the metal ones like the one below? I used to use that kind, it was a pain in the butt. So, I bought a wooden one, but now a days, I rarely use it.

This is my first foray into making pen covers. So, I'm starting small and will work my way up.

We went to the Renn. faire. We'll never go again. It's so gone downhill. They wanted $12.00 for a turkey leg, granted it's large, but seriously $12.00 !?!. Also, $4.00 for a 16-oz bottle of water!?! There were hardly any performers and the ones they had were just okay. In the old days they had The Flying Wallendas, Smee and Blogg, Rollo Polo, Wench Work, etc.

Yesterday we went to a fundraiser for the Massachusetts Center for Native American Awareness (MCNAA). There was a live and silent auction. I donated one of my Kingman Mine Turquoise necklaces (live) and a lighter cover (silent) to the auctions. My cousins husband won the 50/50 raffle $130.00. In the door-prize raffle, I won two $25 gift certificates to Applebees and my sister one a $50 gift certificate to PF Chang's. I won a couple of items in the silent auction, too. In the live auction my brother won $600.00 Foxwoods Casino gift certificate and two game tickets to a Providence Bruins game.(value $200.00).

Yeah, it's the metal one, it has no weight to it, so it's always moving around and such. The square stitch looks so much more easier than the loom, I'm going to have to try it when my mom and I start making jewelry. Thank you :)

That sucks. The last one I went to was pretty good, even though it was at the end of the day, they still had a bunch of stuff going on. You might just have to find a different one to go to.

I would, but the only other Renn faires in MA are in the Berkshires. There's the one in Lennox, but it's a 3.4 hour drive. The only others are in ME and NH and they're even farther from me.

Things seemed to go downhill after the original King and Queen died. They have a memorial garden for them at the faire. They were such sweet people. He died first and she died of cancer a few years later. She preformed right up to the end. I sure miss Babs, she was such a sweet heart. They both remembered me when they saw me. She would always give me a hug.
