A Night In The Life

David decided to get as far away from the city as possible. He had to get away.
It was 5:30 PM and the rush hour traffic was at it's peak.
To make matters worse, there was some kind of accident up ahead.
"God knows how long I'll be stranded here."
The traffic crept at a snails pace. There was an exit about a mile down the way. By the time he made it to the exit, he knew that he'd never get out of town on time.
He made his move.
He backed up just a little, being careful not to bump the car behind him, inched forward and cut into the right lane, much to the annoyance of the driver who proceeded to flip him off and curse a blue streak about something regarding his parentage.
He drove across the grass onto the frontage road and took the next right which he knew would take him through downtown.
The sun had set and the moon was rising.
He made a right onto Elm.
He shrieked in agony which caught the attention of a nearby pedestrian. He got out of the still moving car and ran, ducking into an alley and then into the rear of a building. He heard the nearby din as the car crashed into an office building. Oddly, he took some satisfaction from it.
David looked up and saw the Security Guard coming toward him.
"David. Is that you, David?"
"Not now, Tom. Please go away quick."
Tom the Guard, who had been somewhat of a jerk to David these past few days, looked at David and said,
"Man, you look bad. Been drinking out of the wrong bottle or something?"
Tom started to laugh as David shook. David crawled out into the darkness of the alley and the night, but much to his dismay, Tom followed.
"Davy, come on out. I promise I won't bite. Hard. (snicker)
Tom followed the sounds of the heavy painful breathing. He looked behind the dumpster and....
"No, but I will", said David in a guttural voice.
"Oh Tom, I've done everything possible to keep my nature hidden."
David's form shifted in the shadows, getting larger.
"Why didn't you just stay where you were?"
David grunted in agony as his gums pulled back and his teeth became long and pointed.
"I can't have you running away and revealing my secret, so unfortunately for you, you must die."
"No no, please...."
The Werewolf came fully out of the shadows.
"Oh my God!"
The Werewolf grabbed Tom by the thoat and lifted him off the ground.
Tom fought hard, but to no avail.
"I never wanted this, but it has to be done. For your sake, I'll kill ya quick, so stop struggling."
Tom's eyes got wide as he faced the horror full on.
"Oh, yeah. One more thing. I'm hungry."
Tom's neck snapped with a sound like a wet tree branch breaking.
Only a few people heard the sounds from the alley as Tom was being devoured.
Sated, the Werewolf crept through the alleys and gutters of downtown until he made his way to the river bottoms.
He hid in the small control room behind the artificial waterfall of the now abandoned restaurant.

I lost everything from Chapter Two!! I don't even have any notes, just memory.
(sigh) Calling it a night.

Nope. I should be so lucky.
I did write down the Notes from memory of what I had, so I won't have to start from scratch.

The Werewolf awoke from it's....sleep as the moon set. It rose slowly from the concrete floor
but was immediately wracked with pain as the transformation began.
The rays of the rising sun stabbed into its eyes like needles forcing it to crawl into the shadows.
Its center of balance shifted as its spine shortened.
It writhed on the floor in agony as muscles and sinews shrank,
the muzzle shrank back into the face, fangs became normal teeth.
The limbs shortened and the fur finally disappeared.
The last to turn were its eyes.
David was once again human.
He lay there breathing heavily, sweat pouring off of his body.
He rose to his knees and then slowly, shakily to his feet. He looked down at his body.
His clothes hung from him in tatters. Then there was the blood.
He fell to his knees and wept as the memories of last night flooded into his brain.
After finishing up with Tom, he (the Beast) crawled deeper into the darkness of the alley
and then dropped down a partially covered manhole as a Police Car pulled up nearby.
It came up out of the underground about 30 minutes later. A homeless drunk rounded the corner,
saw the Werewolf standing not far away and said, "HEY! Halloween was last week, pal!"
It cocked its head, looking hard at the man. Something about him smelled bad, so the Werewolf
walked away into the shadows and eventually got to the river bottoms.
David knew that he had to get home now, but since he was almost naked, he had to be careful
or he'd wind up in the same situation as he had last month: Busted for public nudity and public intoxication
and a night in the slams. A Priest gave him some clothes.
The Judge was a good sort. He let David off with a fine and 1 year probation.
David made his way out of the control room and down to the river.
He walked for about 4 miles, struggling through the poking branches, thorn bushes, weeds and mud.
He walked up a hill onto some railroad tracks, walked another mile or so and then off into a creek
which he knew by instinct would get him to his duplex apartment.
When he got there, he looked for the hidden key under the rock in the bushes and let himself in.
The river bottoms had really done a number on him. He had scrapes and scratches in various and sundry places.
He stumbled into the bathroom, and didn't even bother to get rid of what remained of his clothes.
He got into the shower, turned on the water as hot as he could stand it and the remnants of his clothes fell off.
The top layer of skin came off, as well, but he hardly felt it. It was remained of the skin of the beast.
He dried off, walked into the bedroom and dropped into bed, falling immediately into a deep sleep.
The dreams came, dark and troubling. He was stalking a woman he knew was his next door neighbor.
As he closed in on the woman who by then knew that she was followed by something unnatural,
he/it heard cheers from nearby.
He turned, looked and much to his/its amazement, he/it saw a squad of Cheerleaders and they were cheering
him/it on excitedly, seemingly oblivious to the fact that it was a Werewolf.
David slept all day and all through the next night.

Dispatch: "Come in, 27."
27: "Go ahead, Rampart."
Dispatch: "Reports coming in of a 10-51, Louisiana State Bank. Corner of Main and Peoples Drive."
27: "Copy that, Rampart. We're in the vicinity. We'll check it out."
Harry and Will were friends as well as cops. Each had been on the Force for close to seven years.
Now they were headed out to investigate what they thought was a routine call on a car accident.
It was anything but routine.
After arriving at the scene they radioed in and began the preliminary investigation, not knowing that a Werewolf had just escaped their sight by dropping down a manhole.
The car, a 1999 Honda Civic with Louisiana plates, had suddenly swerved off the street to the right and slammed
into an Insurance office on the ground floor. The impact had sent metal and broken glass out in every direction.
Harry stood by making notes for the report.
27/Harry: "Rampart, this is 27.
Dispatch: "Go ahead, 27."
27/Harry: "We have a green late model Honda Civic. Tag #: Bravo Victor Delta 4-7-1-8. The car has been abandoned."
Dispatch: "10-4, 27. Stand by for Wants and Warrants."
Will made a note of the damge to the car and the direction the debris had gone.
Glass, metal, debris from the vehicle...a shoe....and...
"Harry, come over here, will ya?"
Harry went over to where Will stood. "Whatdoya got?"
Will nodded toward the spots on the ground. "That look like blood to you?"
Harry knelt and looked at it closely. He put on a latex glove and touched it. It came back wet.
"Fresh. I'll chck the car interior."
"Right", said Will.
Harry checked but there was no sign of blood inside the car. He got a bad feeling. He nearly jumped as
Will appeared behind him.
"I gotta go relieve myself. Be right back", Will said.
"I told you to do that at the station!"
"Hey, when ya gotta go....", he said with a shrug.
"Make it quick."
Will went into the alley, around the corner and out of sight.
A minute went by. As Harry stood by waiting, he suddenly heard the sounds of Will being sick.
"Will. Will? You okay, buddy?"
The bad feeling got worse. He walked into the alley and saw Will on his knees dry heaving.
"Hey man, why didn't you tell me you were...?
He stopped and followed the sounds of the swarm of flies.
A body. He walked closer. White male, approximately 26 years old. Lying on his back.
His face staring sightlessly at the sky. He saw the blood around the body and then looked away.
"Will, come on, buddy. Let's get you outta here. I'll call for back up."
He sat Will down in the Unit.
"Rampart, this is 27."
"Go ahead, 27."
"We have a homicide victim, alley near Main and Peoples. We need back-up and Forensics.
Rampart: "10-4, 27. Attention all available units. Assistance requested at Louisiana State Bank, Main and Peoples.
Homicide victim. Unit 27 also requests Coroner and JP."
Backup arrived by way of 2 Police Units followed by the Coroner's Van.
Even the M.E. was nauseous as he examined the body and made note of its condition.
He wiped his brow and tried to focus on the Science of what he was doing instead of the horrific details of the ravaged corpse before him.
"Recording. Homicide victim is a white male, approximately 26 years old. 68 inches tall."
He turned the victim over with the help of his assistant.
"Victim's neck has been broken and is facing backwards. This must have required great strength.
The victim has also.....(gulp)...suffered extensive trauma to the....abdomen and chest area.
Death occured after the vertebrae was broken. He didn't die immediately, hence the...uh... bleeding out.
Hmmmmm....strange markings on the neck....not like hands. JIM!"
The Coroner's assistant came over.
"Get some photos of those marks on his neck."
"Already got 'em."
"Good work. Let's tag him and bag him".
Homicide Victim: Thomas W. Horne of ____________________, LA.
Wrecked car: 1999 green Honda Civic. Owner: David T. Sanderson.
Arrest Warrant Issued: 4/13/2016. Leaving the scene of an accident. Abandoning car.
A couple of miles away, the Werewolf became aware of the sounds of the sirens.
The hunt was on.

1 Day later:
Sanderson was watching the news on his computer when there was a knock at the door. He got up and answered it.
"David Sanderson", asked the cop?
"Richard Sanderson, actually. David was my brother. Can I help you?"
"Okay. Can I see some ID?"
"Uh, sure. What's this all about?"
Harry looked at the ID and it checked out.
"A car belonging to your brother was involved in a car wreck early this morning. We'd like to ask him a few questions."
Richard got upset. " That's impossible. What are you....?"
Harry tried to calm Sanderson.
"Listen, he's probably alright, but a car registered to him lost control this morning and slammed into a building.
He left the scene of the accident and we're looking for him."
"His car? What is this, a joke? My brother David was KILLED in a hunting accident about a year ago!"
"Yes! We've been searching for his body ever since so that we could lay him to rest."
"I am truly sorry to hear of your loss, sir. Did you report the car stolen?"
"Stolen? No, it's in storage."
"Alright, thank you for your help, Mr. Sanderson."
Sanderson shut the door and Harry went back to the Unit.
Will was told to take the day off, so Harry was riding solo.
As he drove away from the Sanderson estate, he radioed in.
Dispatch: "Go ahead, 27."
"I made contact with the resident at 4118 Shenandoah Blvd. Subject was a twin brother, Richard Sanderson.
David Sanderson reported deceased a year ago. Transmitting photo now."
Dispatch: "27, the photo you sent me of David Sanderson, deceased for about a year doesn't match up."
"Why's that, Rampart?"
Dispatch: "Subject was in County Lockup at Central a month ago."
27: "Wait, WHAT?"
Dispatch: "Would you like for me to repeat, sir?"
27: "Negative. What was David Sanderson's last known address?"
Dispatch gave him the address and Harry hit the Lights. He made a U-turn and took a road which lead to Sanderson's apartment.
Robert April, Owner and Manager of April Storage and Pawn got to work that morning expecting the day to be like any other day. It wasn't.
Someone had broken into the Office and then unlocked one of the storage units.
The car that was supposed to be in 109 was gone. He called 911.
Whew! When it rains, it pours.
To be concluded tomorrow, somehow.
