So, not a big deal, since it is only 1 year, and who knows the *future* but....we want to get away, but JUST for the weekend.

Here are our options so far:

Disneyland  (I know, cheesy, but we live 25 miles and haven't been in over 10 years!)

Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego  Supposedly, was haunted at one time, but I don't think so anymore, still a cool place.

Winchester Mystery House and then stay in Santa Cruz.

Solvang, CA  A little danish town with lots of wine to taste.

Idyllwild, CA  Not sure about the weather, but it's supposed to be a cute town.

Thoughts??

My vote is for Solvang!!! I've been trying to learn as much as I can about wine over the last year so that'd be my choice.

Oh that's right! I forgot you were "in to" wine. We have to chat!
By the way, if you don't have it already, you will just devour the Wine Bible, if you pick up a copy.
It's great.

Well I like Solvang too.  I go at least once a year (after all I am in the same area code).  You can stay at Wine Valley Inn.  In the back they have the cutiest cottages in the back, they look like little cottages from Snow White.  They are 2 story and some have their own private jacuzz.

Also close by to Solvang is Los Olivos.  They have a cute resturant called Mattei's Tavern.  It use to be a stagecoach stop and resturant that was founded in 1886 (possible haunted, I am not sure).  There is also nice places to wine taste in Los Olivos as well.

Now if you go and you take the route by Lake Cacachuma you can go here...Cold Springs Tavern.  It was built in the 1860's as a way station to serve the travelers on the new "turnpike" over the San Marcos pass that was constructed by Chinese laborers to ease transportation over the mountains.  On the weekends you get alot of bikers (I know cause we go on once in while).  It is so cool.  And they have this creek that runs right through the area.  It there is enough water (should be after this weekend) there is even a water fall.

I guess you know my choice.  Good luck on yours.

What do you think he would like?  Do that.

I really thought Solvang was neat when I was there.

Here are a few pictures of Solvang for those who have never been.

Now right behind this windmill is the San Ines Mission.  To the left of this windmill is a parking lot.  On the back wall of the parking lot is a wall with a gate.  Go through the gate and you are at San Ines Mission.  My daughter did your 4th grade Mission Project on this Mission.  She did a great job.

Also not to far from Solvang is La Purisima Mission.

La Purisima Mission is suppose to be very haunted.  I that a few times a year you can actually spend the night at the mission and they have ghost hunting at night.  Here is a picture of the cemetery.

I'm sorry if I am trying to sell you on these locations.  I am just one of those people who do not like crowds so I tend to stay away from Disneyland...even though I love the place.

Congrats on your 1 year and good luck with your choices.

Only because I'm partial to the Santa Cruz area (born and raised there), I would do the Winchester Mystery House and then stay in Santa Cruz.  There are a few places in Santa Cruz that are supposedly haunted too.  Have fun!

If your Man appreciates a good bottle of Merlot, do the Wine thing.
"Something weird is going on Jess." Simon whispered as they waited to be served. "I overheard Sara and Hector say something about 'getting back at you' in the library this morning."
Jessie thought for a moment, his face expressionless as usual.
"That's just crazy." he said. "I didn't think you even knew where the library was."

Oh almost forgot, if your gonna do the wine thing, splurge for a dinner and a nice bottle of port with some cheesecake or something sweet for dissert, nothing like good foodand drink to make a weekend getaway.

Thank you everyone for your replies!

I think I have narrowed it down. I think I am going to save Solvang for when it is warmer out, or closer to the harvest (august/september). PLus, my family has a beach house in Santa Barbara that I can stay at, but it's been cold there lately, and foggy.

So, I am, believe it or not, leaning towards Disneyland too.
I  can't believe it myself, really. But it is the *dead* of winter, so there won't be nearly the crowds to contend with, as opposed to the summer.
PLus, it is only an hour from my place.

Wincester is his favorite, I think. He is really interested in the construction of it (He is an Electrical Engineer).
But, staying in San Jose sounds  down.gif
It reminds me of Office Space.

You could do the Winchester House, then go stay at Brookdale Lodge in Ben Lomond...it's pretty cool and supposed to be very haunted.
