This happened earlier this year in March.
I'm not sure if this first part is connected or not, but my mom bought a stuffed Elmo doll for my son and he didn't seem to care for it, even though he likes watching Elmo on TV..

Now, onto the story...

My wife had a dream about a week after my mom brought the Elmo doll to our house.  She was feeding our son in the middle of the night (like normal) and his room was dark (like normal).  In the dream, there was this shelf full of toys near the bedroom door and one of them was a "talking" Elmo doll.  Well, this doll started doing the Elmo laugh, and then jumped onto the floor and started crawling toward them both.  My wife was obviously filled with fear and started yelling "I plead the blood of Jesus Christ".  She then heard a loud hiss and woke up.

Needless to say after this dream, she was afraid of leaving the bathroom and mudroom doors open at night for about a month and would not even watch Ghost Adventures with me.  It even scared me too, as you would expect.  What makes this even more scary is the Elmo doll that my mom bought for my son does not talk.

My wife had a previous experience that was similar to this a while back.  Here is the link to that post...

I can't say whether these two instances are connected or not, but they both happened at very happy times in our lives.

I so, hope Emo is no longer a member of you household?

Any object that makes someone feel that uncomfortable, should be taking a one way trip out of the house!

I would then be going around and anoint the doors and windows.

Hope it has all settled down quickly. Your poor wife having 2 similar dreams! :fright:

Do you know anything about the history of your house or property that this being could be connected to?
Resident skeptic. Deal with it.

That Elmo doll is definitely gone.  We ended up putting it in the "donation" bag and dropped it off at Good Will.  Only thing that is weird to me is the doll didn't have a talking or "laughing" feature on it like one in the nightmare.

I'm sorry, I forgot to include this info...  The first nightmare happened in the apartment we lived in at the time.  The second one happened in the house we bought in 2019 that we currently live in.  I'm not sure how old the apartment buildings were, but they look like they were built in the early to mid 90s.

Our house was built in 2011 and we are the second owners.  I'm not sure what the previous owners were into as far as this stuff either.

Not to diminish the nightmare because I know they can be jarring at times during sleep, but I fail to see it as anything but a bad dream and not demonic as the title suggests or even paranormal. The mind conjures pretty unusual fantasies during the sleep cycle. Where I would be concerned is if the dream becomes a repeating affair.

Getting rid of the doll may have been the answer. It's best just to put it behind you and not dwell on it. It's over thankfully.

The doll was only involved with the second nightmare.  Not saying it had anything to do with it, but getting rid of it seemed to do the trick for now.  I still don't know why the first "nightmare" even happened.  Like I stated in that thread, we both felt like something was in the room with us.  The hair on my arms still stands on end thinking about that night.

The prevailing theory is that dreaming helps you consolidate and analyze memories (like skills and habits) and likely serves as a “rehearsal” for various situations and challenges that one faces during the daytime. If it has underlying paranormal/demonic function you'd need a study of some sort with supportive evidence. To my knowledge there isn't any.

Research suggests there is a dream rebound effect, also known as dream rebound theory, in which suppression of a thought tends to result in dreaming about it.

The "rebound theory" offers a great explanation to the event described from Nightwalker.

Nothing is certain but there are fallacies that shouldn't be first considerations.

What can I say, "I'm a victim to the fundamental principle of skepticism."

While I respect your skepticism, my wife is very spiritual and has a very strong spiritual connection to her Grandma Jackie.  She passed away the day we found out my wife was pregnant with our son and my wife started crying that morning before she knew she was pregnant or that her grandma died.  There was something there that told her life had changed for two different reasons that day.

I would love to say you're right, but I don't think you can put the "bad dream" label on this.  Both times, my wife felt a strong presence in our bedroom and it kept us both up for most of the night.

Interesting thoughts. I'm curious how you separate a logical event from paranomal / spiritual calling. What are the defining characteristics that makes you believe an event to not have a mundane explanation.

For me it is a gut feeling, there is no research or understanding to it or control over it. I don't go to bed asking for a preview of tomorrow's news.

I have had many prophetic dreams that you could call nightmares from bushfires and house fires, to people being murdered, to vehicle accidents. For me at least, the dream is very vivid in detail and an image is played out until you understand the meaning. What often, but not always,  will happen when I wake up I will see that event I dreamt of in familiar detail on the news.  I have written about the Boston Marathon the event of the two terrorist brothers somewhere here and have the entry in my diary of my dream.

Now the best is when my loved ones care to drop into my dreams. I will tell you of one because they are personal and I don't often share them and many might say they are coincidences. I also don't believe in coincidences :)

After our parents died I dreamt we (my siblings)  were orphans.  At the dream orphanage, I saw a similar gate as depicted if the holocaust concentration camps. This gate had  "Maxwell" written across the entrance. A short time later my older brother at the age of 59 years found he was not the biological son of our father and the information came from and was signed by a Mrs Maxwell.

Before the dream,  I  heard the word "81" I was full awake while minding my own business which is normally how and when I get messages from spirit!

Our father was at the end stage of cancer and in and out of hospital at that time. So I was hoping it wasn't 81 days and it wasn't. But  then the "coincidences" started, my aunt died aged 81, it was 81 days from the last  hospital admission for our father to the day my brother and his wife arrived at my home for our father's funeral  and then when my brother found his biological father, his BF was 81 years old. I only kept track of the days since my brother is also a huge skeptic.

So really, I don't care how it happens and I have no understanding of why it happens to me. I think I would go mad because there is so much we don't understand!

I hope this helped understand EVP, that was the best I could explain it anyway. LOL.

Klainey - wow.  There's a post somewhere and we were discussing something similar.... maybe it was what gift someone might have.  I didn't have a word or term to describe it so I just called it a 'Knowing".  I have re read your posts on different subjects and always learn something I didn't see before.  You make it very clear and very natural feeling.   Thank you!  You all have really showed me so many things.

I also do believe that when we have a dream or hear something - the smallest thing and you can feel it to the very core of your soul, that's all I need to differentiate 'was it just a dream or my imagination?' When I feel it and it takes my breath away, I know the difference.

If that makes any sense.
