I don't understand these two pics at all! Why they came out like that. Has anyone else every had this happen. I figure there is an explanation, I just don't what it is. These pics have bothered me since they were took. This one to. I don't understand what could cause the camera to do this kind of stuff.

The camera likely metered improperly for the conditions and produced a dark image. It's not that uncommon when shooting in program/auto mode. High end camera set in program/auto mode do the same thing. Cameras typically do well with automatic exposures but are bone stupid. That is why I shoot manual mostly and will use a light meter for incident/reflective conditions.

The photo does have some creepy effects!

The dark eyes are scary... I have never had that happen with my cellphone pictures! And your left hand looks like it was chewed up in a blender! Do you have tattoos on your fingers?

Creepy for sure!  :o

No I don't have tattoos on my fingers or hands. I have one on my right wrist that wraps all the away around. I have one one on each upper arm. Left arm covers my whole front upper arm. Right covers about half of my upper arm.

Whatever the reason for the strange effects, it's still very odd.

I'm thinking that the MP (mega pixel) on you phone is very low, like a 2MP and it cant cope with low lighting conditions, for these sort of photo's, it would be better if it was a 8MP or better.

Hi, Kristin, Are these recent pictures or still the ones you have stored and are going through?

If they are recent maybe you could take a picture without the mirror reflection and then another picture into the mirror to see if it happens only with the mirror? I don't know anything about camera's except point and click. LOL, and I sometimes don't get very good picture myself :)

They are all old ones. I really don't take pics anymore. The weird thing is 80% of all the unexplainable pics are in  a mirror but not all.

I'm not convinced that all her photos are explainable... but have enjoyed the interesting photography lessons, so that was a plus!

I don't see what's scaring you in these pictures? It's probably a poorer quality because there isn't enough light and you most likely have the iso setting on automatic so it degrades the picture quality.

Kristin, if you are speaking about the hands absent in one image compared to the hands present in the other image, there are some clearly noticeable differences with the images in angle and distance. I have lined both images perfectly to the bottom part of the frame. You will notice the one mirror on the left is larger than the one on the right. That is because your phone is closer and the mirror size looks larger. That  means your position has changed when taking the pictures. Secondly, if you look at the mirror on the left, the framing of the light and the amount of curtains being shown are different. You are not taking the picture from the same angle.

I suspect those are your hands and you have moved from the analogy I just made. You need to administer controls and positions need to be consistent. This is why a tripod, a cable release and minimal human interaction is necessary. This might be considered to an extreme but you are comparing a ground hog to a pack rat.

The blurring you are seeing is from a slow shutter unable to freeze the action.

I totally respect our differences in opinion, but I do understand photography equipment and understand how it works. Here's a sample of just my cameras and lenses.

Here is your EXIF data. I thank you for retaining it but the shutter speed isn't present in the embedded data. Without a strong flash, you will not be able to freeze the action unless you have a tripod in low light. In illustration, the above B&W image I took had a flash mounted to the hotshoe bouncing light off the ceiling to evenly illuminate my equipment. This was shot handheld at 3:00 AM in my kitchen. My flash was able to freeze the action easily at a slow shutter speed without a tripod necessary.

***NOTE*** Go into your settings on your camera if you are in low light and adjust your ISO from 100 to 400. That will increase your sensor sensitivity allowing the shutter speed to be faster. The caveat to a higher ISO is increased noise especially when you are using an extremely small sensor found in cellphones.

Hope my explanation helps you.
