AGING and ILLNESS: The Brain, The Mind and The Body. My Perspective

The Body:
Five years and five months ago, I became aware that I had become a Diabetic.
This was devastating news, especially since the nurse who informed me of my new illness
was rather flippant in giving me the information. I immediately sank into a deep depression.
It is always with me, but I have learned how to deal with it on a daily basis.
I take a medication now but only to control my Diabetes. I have to stay away from flour and sugar.
My Doctor also gave me a 'scrip for my blood pressure and for cholesterol.
Side effects for the latter two included sweating, nausea, drowsiness and fatigue.
After 3 months with those last, I threw them out, not just because of the side effects, but they were
also non-essential.
About 3.5 years ago, I noticed that something was growing inside of my right nostril. I remove it,
but it grows back. The nostril bleeds at times. The growth isn't painful or uncomfortable. It's just annoying.
About a year ago, I noticed that I'm having tremors. They go from being light and hardly noticeable,
to severe. This is VERY annoying because it gets in the way of my typing and especially writing with a pen.
Minute jobs requiring dexterity and concentration have now become almost impossible.
I am working through this difficulty the best I can without a proper diagnosis and without medication.

The Mind:
For about 7 years, I have found myself finding difficulty with short term memory.
I have also been having trouble remembering words or what people tell me.
I've been shaking it off, but I have a deeper suspicion that there might be a more
serious underlying problem. Decision making has also become an issue.
For instance, "I'm going out to LA again." And then I never go.
That's been going on now since 2020.

The Brain:
The bottom line here is that my brain is aging and it is having a negative effect on my body and mind.
Thinking about it now, I find it to be a challenge and quite fascinating.
"Oh, so THIS is what happens when you slide into old age!  It's one of those things that makes you go
(Puts an index finger against my temple) 'Hhmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm."

Thanks for letting me share this.

I have been a diet controlled diabetic for 40 + years it is hard work but well worth the effort.

I was lucky in away since my father was a diabetic too so mum did all the diabetic cooking.

The secret is to do your own research and find a lifestyle you can maintain.

That doesn't mean I don't cheat ;) I celebrate special occasions with my loved ones but it will be a meal not a "Fall off the wagon"!

We were under a Tornado Warning about 90 minutes ago.
I opened the back door and looked out. I couldn't see it, but
I could hear it!

I am shocked and saddened by the news of David Crosby's passing.
It was because of CSN and other influential groups from the '60's and 70's
that I decided to get a guitar and learn how to play it.
I used to sit with my friends Tony and Bob and our mutual friend Lisa to
play and sing. I would take Cosby's part in the songs, especially "Helplessly Hoping".

I'm not sure why, but for some reason, we think our heroes are immortal,
that they won't age, get sick and die. Inevitably, they do and we do, too.
My deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of David Crosby, especially
Stephen Stills, Graham Nash, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Melissa Ethridge and so many more.
Rest in peace, David. Thank you for your incredible music.

Me with my guitar.

Well, this day has really gotten off to a bad start. I accidentally poured $600.00 worth of my medication into a measuring cup that had water in it. I just bought them yesterday! Now I have to go back to the Pharmacy this morning after 11:00 am.

After having my Office Desk for over ten years during which time I hauled it
all the way from Texas to my current home in Alabama, it is finally falling apart.
It's made of GLASS, wood and METAL, so I'm going to have it disassembled
by a professional.
Terry and I are headed to Office Depot tomorrow to pick out the new desk for my Office.
I'm going to have it assembled in there. Until then, it's going to look rather empty
for a few days.
I hope that this post finds all of you well.
