Totally agree Mac. I shoot in manual mostly but if you have the ability to shoot with exposure compensation, this will be a good time to use it and underexpose. In these special cases of strong reds values, I look at my RGB histogram instead of the histogram brightness. In brightness, the image will fool you time after time. I always chimp my shots with strong reds or it's just a wasted shutter click.
