I'm in the path of Oroville Dam. Will probably evacuate this afternoon.
Please keep all that are here by Oroville, in your thoughts and prayers.

I'm a bit south of where Jim is. I was watching this on the news yesterday afternoon, they were expecting the auxiliary spillway to fail within the hour. Fortunately that didn't happen. They drained enough water out so it isn't spilling and eroding that troubled area, and are dropping large backs of rocks from helicopters to shore up where the erosion is.

But yeah, evacuation orders are still in effect for the areas below the dam. And more rain coming in later this week.

Stay safe, Jim!

Thanks everyone... it's been tough. Over 180,000 people have already evacuated. One dilemma is, what to take? We will be leaving in the next few days most likely. So what does one do, fill a UHaul? ...just grab what will fit in the car or what?  Posted Image  ....lot's more rain coming by Thursday for 7 days!
So as for me personaly, I think I'll just grab clothes and my computer.  ;)

Thanks again everyone... Your thoughts and prayers mean so much!

Jim, from what I'm hearing on the news, it's very possible people will be allowed back to their homes in the next few days. They're reinforcing the erosion, and plan to have the overall water level drained to where it's safe before we get more rain.

Not sure if there will be more rain where you are than where I am in the Sacramento area, but at least here it doesn't sound like it'll be nearly as heavy as we had last week.

But do what you gotta do to stay safe!

Oh no that's terrible Jim! I hope that the danger passes quickly and that you're able to stay in your home. If not I will keep you in my thoughts.

Probably half my neighborhood have left and nothing was open today (in the way of retail), not even Walmart. About the only thing were a few gas stations and one small store.
They are telling us in our city that it's not a mandatory evacuation, like some other cities in that radius but they are strongly encouraging us to leave.

Yes Vlawde... it's better because the water is down... but there's still a big risk.

I don't know how to pick what to take, but basically grab living beings (family members, pets) basic clothing. maybe some food and get to safe ground.

Sikh temples are taking people in to shelter and feed them, they're good people.  (I'm not a Sikh, but I know some.)

If I had to choose it would be unreplaceable things.   So family photos,  important documents (mortgage and insurance papers,  birth certificates,  marriage certificates) and all the people  hairy and not so hairy (with food for the short,  hairy people).  Then pack like I'm going to South America for a month (backpack full of clothes,  my traveling medicine chest/emergency kit, some grooming and laundry supplies, my portable electronics,  knife and water purification tabs).   Any time or space left in my trunk would be stuff I really like and would hurt to lose like my father's flag. Everything else is replaceable.

But I hear barring another heavy rain right now you're clear.   Fingers crossed it stays that way.

I agree with trin. Here's a rundown of what you should pack.

EMERGENCY LIST
Dry goods(soup, peanut butter, crackers, canned foods, bread, etc.)
non-electric can opener
Pet food
Medications
Bottled water and/or water purifier
Cellphones and their chargers
Money
Deeds
Insurance papers
Passports
Licenses
Photo albums (because that's the one thing, besides your family and pets, that you can't ever replace.)

Emergency kit: silver rescue blanket, 2 gallon water container, emergency whistle, flashlight w/ handle charger, batteries, cotton work gloves, 50 hour candles, 12 hour light sticks, plastic emergency sheeting, dust masks, waterproof matches, large bio-hazard waste bag, multi-function knife, small hand-crank radio, and a container or bag(to carry it all)

First aid kit: nitrile/vinyl medical gloves, adhesive bandages(all sizes and shapes), cotton balls, gauze pads(small, medium and large), gauze rolls, medical tape, antiseptic wipes, antibiotic ointment(ie. neosporin), and aloe gel
