April the pregnant giraffe calls the Animal Adventure Park in New York home. She is due to present a brand new calf to the world any day now, and has been biding her time since mid-February, I think. I guess when a pregnancy lasts 15 months, a few weeks or so either way is not an issue. The live feed was offline for a few hours due to high winds having wrecked havoc with something essential, but seems to be up and running again. Check her out. She seems to spend a fair amount of time just standing and chewing, but I suppose if I weighed 2500 pounds and had a 125-lb baby giraffe inside me, I wouldn't be moving very fast either.
I love the way she interacts with the bull in the neighbouring enclosure. He is the dad, and spends much of his time pacing. She wanders to the partition and they nuzzle and interact, It is quite amazing, really. They are rarely physically together because he is a bull and could present a danger to her or her calf. Seems his priorities are fighting, feeding and mating and she doesn't need any of that at this time.
Men, I tell ya!
