Thought I'd start a thread for my own images as long as no one is offended. I'll post periodically accordingly.

Spent a few hours on 11-04-17 with my new re-enactment model at his place. Perfect rural setting for the shoot and will likely be the last in 2017 outdoors. This was heavily manipulated in Photoshop to give it a period feel. This man has plenty of costuming. This outfit is Civil War garmenting and in fact has authentic 1860 buttons on the jacket that he's been offered a small fortune. I've been fortunate on Flickr to be recognized with this image. It's seen 10,000 views in the last 12 hours. Hope you all enjoy the image.

In the last few days, our autumn has come to an end with a reminder of winter's approach. We had a small sprinkling of snow dancing between a north eastern wind that lasted only moments but long enough to remind us of shortening daylight and colder weather.

This image was taken about 5 years ago in Arches National Park in Utah. I visited a good friend and traveled 2,000 miles in 4 days across the mid-west sharing blissful sites mother nature has carved out of rock from wind and weather. I revisit this image in remembrance and in promise of warmer temperatures; Enjoy.

Evp... I get the feeling you are a writer by trade, is that true? Or poetry perhaps? What you wrote above was thought provoking and inspiring.

Thanks Jim, I'm not a writer but often accompany my images with short stories. It's just another extension of my creative process. My pictures and words offer an outlet to undergo an emotional release. I'm very much a late bloom in life. Both my sister and my mother were artists. I never has an interest in it and always wondered if I was a product of the milkman since my interests and desires were so intangible to theirs.

I'd like to thank you for allowing me this little piece on the board where I can write short dissertations and share my images. All of this is precocious self discovery or early senility setting in.

EVP, It's a beautiful picture. The colors are stunning, especially where the rusty color of the stone and the vivid blue of the sky meet.

Our first dance with winters scorn came with a sense of gentleness but with purpose decorating the scene timely into a Christmas wonderland. As others exonerated their assets throughout the morning in a begrudging fashion, I observed from my pantry window winters' blight with it's depositing of heavens beauty. Many despise and remain unappreciative of this time of year but for those with vision and a camera in hand, it's a welcome blessing. This image was taken 10 minutes from my door. Thank you all ;)

Beautiful capture, EVP!

I hope you don't mind but I have questions.  :)
1. That cow is driving me nuts... is it a painted wood cow or real? It's back has Jagged edges, and the legs look super skinny. So I was wondering after viewing it enlarged.
2. Does the color of the house/barn have a florescent red glow, or is it an enhancement?

Amazing photo, EVP... and as Vlawde mentioned... it would make a beautiful Christmas Card.  :good:

No I don't mind the questions Jim. The cow is a hand painted sign in front of the establishment. They are branding their business. It's a small local dairy produce close by. I have talked to the proprietor. He saw me taking pictures and we had a short conversation afterwards. I asked about the sign as I had the same level of curiosity as yourself. I could have removed the sign but I chose not. I felt it was part of the shot that needed to be included out of respect.

The image has definitely been pushed in post. The day was heavily overcast. Flat lighting produces flat bland coloring in pictures. Light is everything in imaging. I gave it a small treatment of HDR in post to make the red pop and to allow the sun in the left corner to appear without totally blowing out. Cameras are limited in producing dynamic range and generally speaking, with large shifts in contrast, the image can be adversely affected. HDR/ luminosity masks allow blending of multiple images offering much greater latitude. This shot was a single handheld exposure and I had to cheat to bring out what my eye saw. It's definitely an artistic impression. I spent an hour removing telephone/hydro lines in this image that meandered throughout the trees. It was very distracting and limited the value of the image. I don't generally take pictures to document unless it's at an investigation. I'd like to think I create when I can.

Thank you for inquiring Jim. I often find questions the most flattering. That tells me I have someones interest and I am honored.
