The World’s Largest Insect Has Been Discovered In China. And It Will Now Haunt Your Dreams… FOREVER!

Quote

Puppies, kittens, infants: All adorable. And do you know why? Because they’re tiny. If you start to magnify these things, then you wind up with the substantially less cute wolves, jaguars and teenagers. Yes, if there’s one thing nature teaches us, it’s that what may start out as an adorable little animal friend can quickly turn into horror when its itty-bitty mouth gets big enough to start eating your face. And when the little versions are already creepy, the big versions are the stuff nightmares are made of. Case in point: this ridiculously huge bug that was recently discovered.

I saw a similar type of bug as a kid in Nevada at that summer camp.  Not quite as big.  We thought it was a bat when we saw it fly!!!

That's interesting, Louczar. I am surprised that you still remember, seeing something kind of similar as the Giant Dobson Fly.

The sad part is that I remember because an older kid found it on the window sill of a building at the camp, picked it up and was putting it in the smaller kids (me included) faces like he was going to let it bite us with those big pincers.  A camp counselor saw what was happening and made the kid toss it.  As soon as he did, it opened its wings and flew off.  That is why I said it was close to a small bat in size.

Thank you for sharing, and I can understand now, as it certainly would be an unforgettable experience.

At least you wouldn't need a macro lens to photograph it.  :)

True. I'm just thankful, we don't have these to contend with Griffenflies
Meganeuropsis americana  or  Meganeura monyi

Oh My Goodness.
Neither a shoe nor a lighter nor matches would work. We need to get out a bazooka to defend ourselves against this buggy monster. (Sorry Biblophile)

I would suggest, an industrial sized flame thrower. Just a thought.
