Tuar-Tums of Superstition Mountains

"The Indians have a legend of the Little People or 'Tuar-Tums,' who live below the Salt River Valley, or Valley of the Sun.Sources have claimed that 'little men'  that live within the mountain  have been seen on top of ridges in the Superstitions , as if they were guarding something (an entrance to an underground system perhaps?) "

Anyone ever hear of them?

I was searching for accounts about them/stories, i wondered if I could find anything similar to the ones I have.  I didn't know they had a name.

Not right off except one. The cherekees I beleive beleived in tiny people who guarded great treasures from the white men. I wish I could remember the others. We studied this stuff when I was little in school.

Yes, the Cherokee do have legends of "little people" who guarded treasures, not only from the white man, but from greedy tribe members as well. I honestly cannot recall what they were called (it's been several years since I've been able to go to a pow-wow or talk to any tribal elders near me. Working vaccuums.). If I recall correctly, the little people meant more to certain members of the tribe than others, as they would appear to them in their visions and would become a part of their personal medicine. Most often, each member of any given Indian tribe would have their own personal medicine, usually gained through a "vision quest". So, what would work for one warrior might not work for another, according to what they saw in their vision. This was quite pronounced in the warlike tribes.

In gradeschool we actually covered a lot of cultures and stuff. recentally some freinds of mine who are still in high school had an assignment to find and research a haunted house.
