Last month we went on a long weekend to Gettysburg, Pa. While there we went on some tours, including one of the 'haunted Gettysburg' tours, and were able to participate in a ghost hunt. Eventually (hopefully soon) i'll get some of the photos I took up, and I'm waiting on the audio from the ghost hunt.
Ghost tour:
During the beginning of the tour nothing was really happening, but I was being my geeky civil-war-obsessed self and enjoying the history lesson. Three or four 'stops' in I noticed an overwhelming smell of sulfur. No breeze, we were standing still, but BOOM the stench wafted over me. I mentioned it to the tour guide and she smirked and, without missing a beat, told me that it was a common 'residual smell from the war' and that its one of the smells often associated with the town's haunting.
The tour started to cut across a little courtyard between some of the buildings and one of the hotels (the Travel Lodge next to cemetery hill) and I had this overwhelming sense of anxiety and the urge to cry and vomit and physically could not follow the group in at first. I waited on the stairs as the tour guide told the story of that spot. Afterwards my boyfriend came to get me and make sure I was really ok/up to finishing the tour. I just told him that something about that place made me scared and sad all at the same time. We started to walk through and, as I watching some little kid run from the side of one building and disapear around the corner, I made some comment about 'neglectful parents letting their kid run around in the dark'. At that point he (my bf) looked over and asked me 'what the heck I was looking at'. He then told me to stop trying to scare him and said I must have heard the tour guide. Ends up that was behind the soldier's national museum - or the orphanage where children were brutally murdered and tortured during the civil war. (I had never even heard that story until then and, strangely enough, when we got back to the hotel that night we were flipping through the channels and there was a special on it on! but anyway...)
I laughed the whole thing off, still assumed it was just someones kid running around unsupervised, and we caught up with the tour. Our last stop was at a little basin/creek area where we were told that the water used to be deeper (or maybe it was deeper due to rain?) where wounded soldiers would drown simply because they could not stay sitting up to keep their mouths out of the water. I wandered a few yards away from where we were told activity was and had a weird urge to take photos over there instead. I honestly have no idea how to analyze photos so it can very well be dust or flare, but I got some crazy bright red-orange orbs over there.
The tour ended across the lot where they had a cannon out back where the guide said sometimes people have photographic anomalies (apparitions, orbs or 'cloudy mist figures'. Again, some possible orb photos were snapped here (the orb seemed to like our tour guide)
Ghost Hunt
(we went on a hunt at a fairly new location - the 'ghost lab' fun house style haunted museum that, they now found out, is actually a haunted spot)
- never used dowsing rods before. Never really believed they would work. Holy crud they seemed to work for me. They moved for questions (and it felt like mild electricity was running through them. honestly creeped me out a bit). I asked to point the rods in 'their' direction and when a team member with an emf detector walked that way the thing went bezerk and showed the temperature was several degrees cooler over there as well. I didnt see anything, but a third team member said that they saw an imprint on the couch as if someone sat down.
A few rooms later there were two mock prison cells and a room with ghoulish dummies in it (which scared all of us save the 2 team members who had come to this location previously
There is another room that looked like a farm scene or something and had a noose hanging from one of the trees. The one team member who had previously investigated this location said that there is activity around the noose. We asked 'can you make the rope swing' and it started to sway. we asked it to stop and it seemed to stop. Due to how dark it was we do not know if there is the possibility of a draft from air vents nearbye, so, while at this point it freaked us out, we're not sure if this was paranormal or basic physics. We do know that we kept hearing a sound like someone was banging on the walls every time we tried to start an EVP session in that room.
Lastly we were pointed to the hallway where 'events first started happening'. I made it about half way down and felt like I could not walk farther, fell over and had to be helped up so i could run outside of the building and (SORRY THIS GETS GROSS) finally spit out the vomit that I was trying my darndest to hold in my mouth. I apologized to the team for dropping the voice recorder and flashlight but I literally lost control and just fell to the ground. The one team member was outside having a smoke and just looked at me and said "guess youre not going back in?" and all I could say was "whoevers down there is NOT friendly. what the F*** would you send us down there for" he just laughed and said for his first year or so he felt the same way when he opened himself up to spirits and said that some people feel nothing in that hall, others sense evil or just have a strong emotional reaction to whatever is in there as well.
it probably doesnt sound like much but I can tell you SOMETHING was off in that building. Either way, had a great trip and cannot wait to go again.
And want to find a local team that allows tag-a-longs. I want to learn!!!
(edited because I cant spell. hehe)
